On Wednesday, 22 October 2025, the Ministry of Defence and the State Defence Logistics and Procurement Centre signed a contract with the German company Dynamit Nobel Defence GmbH for the procurement of the “Skorpion 2” remote mining system.

“The acquisition of mining systems is a strategic step in strengthening our national defence capabilities. It is an integral part of a broader plan to enhance the security and defence of Latvia’s eastern border. These investments ensure that Latvia is prepared to defend its territory and its people against any type of threat,” said Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds.

The total value of the contract is approximately €50 million (excluding VAT). It includes the procurement of “Skorpion 2” remote mining systems, their ammunition - AT2+ anti-tank mines  - as well as other related equipment. The contract also covers personnel training for operating the systems and additional associated materiel.

The agreement includes the involvement of local industry to strengthen supply security and allows other countries to join the project by signing their own supply contracts with the manufacturer.

The contract also creates opportunities for concluding further agreements with the German company.
