Head of the Center discusses cooperation with Estonian Ambassador
On Friday, 6 June 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Alans Andrulis, Head of the State Defence Logistics and Procurement Centre, met with the Estonian Ambassador to Latvia, Eerik Marmei. The meeting focused on presenting the Centre’s responsibilities and its role in supporting the defence sector, as well as exploring potential areas of cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Andrulis outlined the Centre’s role as the leading institution in Latvia responsible for full life cycle management of defence materiel. This includes organising public procurement for the Ministry of Defence, its subordinate institutions, and the National Armed Forces.
Particular attention was given to the ongoing reform of the supply system. The aim is to transfer procurement and logistics functions away from the armed forces, allowing them to focus fully on their core tasks - national defence and maintaining combat readiness.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between the defence sector and both national and international industry, promoting procurement practices that are transparent and mutually beneficial. In this context, the potential for developing joint procurement projects with Estonia was emphasised. Both Andrulis and the Ambassador agreed that closer cooperation is a strategically important step, especially in light of the current geopolitical challenges in the region.
Latvia and Estonia already work closely together within the framework of Baltic defence cooperation, maintaining regular dialogue at the level of defence ministers, armed forces commanders, and experts on defence policy and capability development.
