As part of the ongoing supply and logistics reform, the State Defence Logistics and Procurement Centre (hereinafter – VALIC) began taking over transport-related functions from the National Armed Forces (NAF) in April.

This marks the next significant step in the implementation of the reform. To date, VALIC has already assumed responsibility for the provision of dry rations, collective equipment, and catering for the armed forces.

The transfer of transport functions will take place in several phases, with VALIC gradually assuming responsibility for spare parts supply, vehicle management and documentation, fuel supply, maintenance support for air and maritime platforms, as well as the procurement and maintenance of all types of autonomous systems.

To ensure the effective execution of these functions, a new specialised unit - the Transport Management Department - is being established within VALIC. Some of the new positions will also be integrated into existing units. Civilian employees of the National Armed Forces currently working in transport-related roles will be offered the opportunity to transfer to VALIC.

To reduce administrative burden, funding will be consolidated to enable full lifecycle management, while expenditure will continue to follow priorities set by the National Armed Forces and the agreed budget. The supply of spare parts and fuel will be organised based on a stock system approach, ensuring faster and more efficient logistics.

The supply and logistics reform aims to modernise the logistics and supply system of the National Armed Forces by strengthening centralised management of defence materiel, improving procurement efficiency, and enhancing supply planning. Its goal is to ensure that the equipment and services required by the armed forces are delivered more quickly and effectively, while also fostering cooperation with the local defence industry.0

VALIC began operations in 2021 and is responsible for the full lifecycle management and logistics of defence materiel, including public procurement for the Ministry of Defence, its subordinate institutions, and the National Armed Forces.
