The State Defence Logistics and Procurement Centre (VALIC) is actively continuing its work on implementing the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. The introduction of these internationally recognised standards marks an important step in the Centre’s development, strengthening processes that ensure efficient, secure, and sustainable defence logistics.

Why are ISO standards important in the defence sector? In defence procurement and logistics, precision, reliability, and transparency are critical. The implementation of ISO standards will:

  • establish unified and transparent process systems, reducing the risk of errors and improving cooperation between organisational units;
  • ensure continuous improvement through regular audits, risk assessment, and systematic performance monitoring;
  • strengthen quality and environmental management, which is particularly important for planning and delivering defence supplies over the long term;
  • increase employee engagement and sense of responsibility, as each role will be clearly defined within the overall system.

The implementation of ISO standards is an investment in institutional excellence and resilience. It will enable VALIC to carry out its core task even more effectively - ensuring that Latvia’s defence system is supplied with high-quality and reliable resources.
